Creating durable performers in sport, work and recreation is the ultimate goal for coaches, trainers and healthcare professionals. The Fundamental Capacity Screen Course will observe four fundamental forms of movement energy expression and discuss how these interact with each other and the individual’s environment to create the sustainable movement fitness and movement health we seek.
For nearly 20 years, Functional Movement Systems has been dedicated to creating a movement-based entry point for the exercise program design process—The Functional Movement Screen. The Fundamental Capacity Screen is a continuation of that systematic and logical approach: before we learn and acquire occupational, recreational or sportspecific skills, we express energy through elemental capacities that can, and should, be measured. In this workshop you will: explore Movement Control, Postural Control, Explosive Control and Impact Control, consider their vital importance within human development and reflect on the philosophy behind developing safe, body relative screens to measure them.
Day 1 of the FCS course will be testing and overview. Both movement (FMS) and basic performance capacities (FCS) will be demonstrated and screened. This allows the attendee to both observe and participate in the screening process. Each station will introduce the participant to the actions and instructions necessary for safe and effective screening.
Day 2 continues screening with real-life examples of how screening scores directly impact exercise program decisions. First, we will explore movement dysfunctions (FMS) and corrective solutions. Second, we will explore movement capacities, fitness deficiencies (FCS) and conditioning solutions.
